I'm Allie McCormack, a published romance novelist with 18 books under my belt—nine in a contemporary paranormal romance series (with number ten in progress), a completed 16th century fantasy/vampire romance trilogy, one nonfiction book, and several other novels across different romance subgenres. Over the years of navigating the publishing industry, I've learned what works, what doesn't, and more importantly—what nobody tells you when you're starting out.
That's why Pencrafters exists. The idea actually came from my son-in-law, who watched me writing, creating graphics, managing beta readers, setting up promos, running ads, and yes—occasionally bitching about marketing. He saw all the knowledge and experience I'd gained over the years navigating this industry, and pitched it to me as a project where I could give back to the writing community.
So Pencrafters came into being. This site is my way of paying it forward. I've watched too many up-and-coming writers get taken advantage of by predatory services, overpay for basic offerings, or give up entirely because they didn't have access to honest, realistic information about what publishing actually requires. I wanted to create a resource that protects aspiring authors while giving them the knowledge and tools to make informed decisions about their publishing journey.
My approach is simple: I only recommend services, tools, and professionals I've personally used and vetted OR are well-known enough within the author community that I feel comfortable recommending.
I believe in transparency about costs, timelines, and realistic expectations. I'm here to guide you, not hand-hold you—which means I'll give you the hard truths alongside the practical advice, but I'll never be preachy or negative about it. You deserve to know what you're walking into, and you deserve to keep your money in your pocket when there are better, more economical options available.
Throughout this site, you'll find detailed breakdowns of everything from the writing process to professional services to marketing strategies. I've organized it so you can find exactly what you need, when you need it. Whether you're choosing between traditional and self-publishing, figuring out which editing services you actually need, or trying to understand why that indie press contract might not be in your best interest—I've got you covered.
Welcome to Pencrafters.ink. Let's get you published the smart way.
